I will be taking some time off for the next few months as I focus all my attention on passing Paramedic schooling and right after our new son should be here. Regular posting will probably resume a little after June 16th which is when I expect to post pictures of our new baby Quinn Beckett Lombard!
Just a quick note about something I found the other day, Parra and Incase have come out with a free iPhone game that is great if you just want to kill a few minutes. The game, called Parra Plays (link opens iTunes), is a fun mix of whack-a-mole (Poppers), Simon Says (Parrot) and a tile matching game (Pairs). If you’re familiar with the IncaseXParra collab, then the artwork will be very familiar to you. Anyways, it’s free, it’s easy and it’s fun. Win-win right?
I tried to install Windows on my MacBook and it messed up my OSX partition which I need to now reinstall. So no major posts till (hopefully) tommorow.
you come across some branding that’s fire department related that is actually decently designed. Most of the time there is an abundance of “Xtreme” and terrible graphics but this New England Ropes site is pretty nice.
By looking at The New York Moon, it’s kind of hard to tell what it is. I guess the easiest way too explain it is to say it is an internet based publication with an overall design theme (a beautiful one I might add) of the moon. The publication itself, it seems, is one where the publishers(?) choose the theme for each edition’s content i.e. the water, and then the content may be of any sort of medium as long as it adheres to that edition’s theme. Make sense? Probably not. It’s easier to decipher if you give it a look.

Anyone who truly knows me, knows my overall appreciation for the works of Michael Eades. Whether it is Yewknee (his daily blog covering all things interesting with an emphasis on the arts), Whiskerino or Moustache May, I rarely find myself as aligned with the tastes of someone as I do Mr. Eades. I have found some bands that I really am amazed and in love with through his blog (How I Became The Bomb, I’m looking at you) and have also found some wonderful people as well. Well, now he is adding something else to his repertoire…yk records.

Guimp claims to be the world’s smallest website. It is 18×18 and still fully functional. This is very creative and different and I love it though I don’t feel it will ever become the norm.

and Thomas Doyle is one of them. I think for me to describe these wonderful pieces of art would be a gross injustice, so straight from his artist statement…
“My work mines the debris of memory through the creation of intricate worlds sculpted in 1:43 scale and smaller. Often sealed under glass, the works depict the remnants of things past—whether major, transformational experiences, or the quieter moments that resonate loudly throughout a life. In much the way the mind recalls events through the fog of time, the works distort reality through a warped and dreamlike lens.”
While I am drawn to the “Distillation” series the most, there is no denying the great amounts of creativity and imagination involved in every piece.
P.S. Take a look at his sketchbook for some of the thought process that was put in to these wonderful pieces.
